Slide to start
Slide the orb toward whoever speaks first. The conversation starts right away.
Two people, one iPhone. Speak naturally, tilt the phone to hand over, and Bascule translates out loud — like a real interpreter sitting between you.
The Bascule
Bascule is French for a tipping see‑saw. Speak, then tip the phone toward the other person — your words are translated and read aloud on their side, the moment you’re ready.
The orb listens and transcribes. Each pause ends a sentence. Nothing is sent until you hand over.
Tilt the phone toward the other person and hold. A soft vibration builds — the countdown is a filling circle, never a number.
The translation appears on their side and is read aloud in their language. Then the orb listens to them.
Everything, in one orb
Words appear as you speak, then come back to life in the other language, read aloud by lifelike voices. Each language is recognized automatically — just talk.
No signal at the market, airplane mode on the flight? Apple Translate runs right on your iPhone — free, private, and it works offline.
Apple Intelligence polishes each sentence using the ones before. With Bascule+, OpenAI follows the thread of the conversation, like a real interpreter.
Fine‑tune on the go. Swipe the orb to retry or undo while you speak; rephrase or replay after a translation — clearer, simpler, more formal or warmer. You never lose track.
Double‑tap a sentence to keep it — an address, a name, a tip. Every conversation ends with an accurate summary: saved passages, place and date, kept on your iPhone.
App translation, three ways
Pick the engine that fits the moment. When the connection drops, Bascule falls back to Apple on its own — the conversation keeps going.
Illustrative example. Apple Intelligence requires a compatible iPhone.
Translation gestures
A clean interface with a single control: the orb. Its color and symbol always show what Bascule is doing.
Slide
Slide the orb toward whoever speaks first. The conversation starts right away.
Tilt
Tilt toward the other person and hold. A smaller angle reacts sooner.
Tap
Tap the orb to turn the mic off or back on. Red ear: the mic is off.
Swipe left
While you speak, it erases and lets you try again. After a translation, it rephrases it — clearer, simpler, more formal or warmer.
Swipe right
While you speak, it undoes the last sentence. After a translation, it reads it again for the other person.
Hold still
Keep the orb still: a circle fills, the conversation ends, and your summary is ready.
Double‑tap
Tap a sentence twice to keep it — an address, a name, a tip. Your summary starts from these.
Timing & sensitivity
Some people think out loud, others pause mid‑sentence. Bascule adapts to silence with a pause — and only hands over when you move. Try it.
Silence before the pause symbol. Nothing is sent before the Bascule.
Tilt past the angle and hold to hand over. A smaller angle reacts sooner.
Made for real life
Still Mode turns off sounds and tilting: slide the orb by hand and keep your eyes on each other.
Keep the key sentences, and leave with accurate notes and a summary.
The only subscription you need when roaming — and it still works offline.

Phone flat on the table, Still Mode on. Save the sweet things they said in your notes.

Formal rephrasing, every number and address kept, a summary with your own instructions.

Directions, menus, markets. Offline when you have no signal, the place saved in each summary.

Private by design
Bascule never records or keeps audio. The mic is only on during a conversation, never in the background.
Summaries and saved passages stay on your iPhone. Banking information is never kept in summaries.
With Bascule+, your OpenAI key stays in this iPhone’s Keychain and goes only to OpenAI. No markup.
Tips & tricks
iOS doesn’t let apps turn it on for you. Set it up once: it turns on when Bascule opens, and off when you leave.

iPhone has microphones at the top and at the bottom. Hold it between you and speak toward the end that faces you — each person talks in their own direction.
With Bascule+, pick a natural OpenAI voice. For Apple voices, download the enhanced ones on your iPhone.

Tap the logo on the home screen: no sounds, no tilting. Lay the phone flat and slide the orb by hand. Tap again to turn it off.
